German Nutcracker: Large Lebkuchen Vendor

German Nutcracker: Large Lebkuchen Vendor

  • 24500

How much do we LOVE lebkuchen? So much! Lebkuchen is the traditional German gingerbread cookie so abundant at Christkindlmarkts and homes and bakeries throughout the Christmas season. Each December and January, you'll find lebkuchen hanging from the stalls at the Christmas markets and you'll find lebkuchen hanging from the branches of Christmas trees, and you'll find plates piled high with lebkuchen, too.

Our nutcracker is a street vendor selling lebkuchen on a cold winter's night, dressed to ward off the chill with a cozy hat and woolen scarf. Beneath that scarf, though, is the classic toothy grin you expect from a traditional German nutcracker. One of the gingerbread cookies in his tray is iced with the words Ich hab dich lieb: "I love you." Made from natural finish and painted woods in beautiful rich, warm tones to bring a little warmth to your Christmas celebration. His hair and beard are lush faux fur, with a bit of woolen trim on his blue hat.

Handmade by artisans of the Christian Ulbricht Company; they've been making nutcrackers by hand in Germany's Erzgebirge Mountains, where wooden nutcrackers first originated, since 1928. This is a working nutcracker (the lever in back operates his jaws). Almost 16" tall x 6" wide x 5" deep. Handmade in Germany.
