True Stories Cleverly Told: Exploring Creative Nonfiction for Narrative, Essay, and Memoir with Cricket Freeman on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Tuition: $135 tuition (includes a box lunch).

Exploring creative nonfiction for narrative, essay, and memoir. What it is, what it isn't, and how to run wild with it. Gather a full day of technique and inspiration with one of our favorite people in the literary world, Cricket Freeman.

There will be a one-hour break for lunch and Convivio Bookworks will provide a healthy and delicious box lunch for you from Aioli in neighboring West Palm Beach. Lunch won't be a complete break from learning, though. Cricket requests that each participant bring 2 or 3 pages of a writing project to share. We'll have readings of your work during lunch providing us with some lunchtime entertainment and also providing your instructor with fodder for the afternoon session, which will incorporate examples of the lunchtime readings and, more importantly, feedback about your work.

As for the box lunch, in the days ahead of the workshop, we will contact you with several sandwich and salad options from which to choose (including vegetarian options). Everything from Aioli is amazing! We will also provide coffee, tea, and cookies. Expect a day of solid work and good community. Perhaps even new writing friends.

Please be sure to include your email address and mobile phone number when checking out, so we may send you workshop information and confirmation in advance of the workshop via email and text messaging.

Instructor Cricket Freeman has always been a tenacious Southern broad who, once she shifted her creativity to the publishing world, ended up finding herself on all sides of the editorial desk at one time or another. It kicked off when a drunken bestselling author, a former editor, happened to grace her guest room one summer and proclaim her a damn-fine writer, so Cricket began hammering out articles on a dusty Olympic typewriter for extra bucks. She kept chugging, taking on every paying gig she could scramble up.

As publishing opportunities opened and technology escalated through computers, websites, digital publishing, video, and streaming, she hung in, piling on credits by the pound, reviewing thousands of Photos and Bios, and accumulating multiple hats as she went: Writer, Literary Agent, Photographer, Editor, Speaker, Publisher, Ghostwriter, Literary Consultant, Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Writer's Retreat Host & Instructor.

Above all, she writes. She is a Word Warrior.
