Mexican Tin Nativity: Deluxe Pop-Up
Tin ornaments, made and painted by hand, are a mainstay of the Christmas celebration in Mexico, and so are nativity scenes. Here, Mexican artisans have created an entire nativity scene using the same bright and colorful technique from their joyful painted tin tradition. This nativity begins as a flat 9 3/4" x 6" x 3/4"... like a thin tin book. Open it and set the sturdy pin to keep it propped open and inside you'll find ten hinged painted tin figures; each one can be stood up and propped, too. It's by far one of the most unusual nativity sets we've ever seen (and certainly the easiest one to store away each year). Handmade by artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico. (This one is very much like our other painted tin pop-up nativity that is made by artisans in Guanajuato, Mexico, but this one is thicker and with a more elaborate background scene.)
