How Lucky Am I (Handmade Accordion Book)

  • 800

Here's a special little upcycled book we make here at the shop. It begins with an offcut from a larger art print by our neighbor, Lake Worth artist John Rachell. Upon the printed offcut, we print, in red foil with our 1950s Kingsley Hot Foil Press, the words How Lucky Am I, words attributed to A.A. Milne, who wrote the beautiful yet melancholy line, "How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." This is the beauty of life, no?

The text is printed from handset Bernhard Gothic type. After it's printed by hand, we fold it by hand, into an adorable accordion book. A few dabs of glue on either end provide a front cover and a back cover. The result is an accordion book with John Rachell's lovely artwork on the back, and four blank panels inside, on which you may write a few words, or do a little artwork of your own with paint or pen and ink or rubber stamps or whatever you wish.

No two will be exactly alike but each is a variation on the same upcycled theme. This lovely little book is a project we began during Open Studio Days, the weekend of May 2 and 3, 2026, a county-wide cultural event begun by the Palm Beach Cultural Council. It's quite sweet.

Just about 3 1/2" tall x 3" wide.
