Lakritsfabriken Salty Black Licorice from Sweden

Lakritsfabriken Salty Black Licorice from Sweden

  • 595

This is a premium licorice from Sweden, where they spell the English translation "liquorice." It's gluten free, as it is made from rice flour, rather than from wheat flour. Packaged in a small box that slips easily into a pocket (or, for that matter, a Christmas stocking). This is the salty version, which is a particularly Swedish taste that others may need some getting accustomed to: It's kind of salty/sweet with a slight ammonia aftertaste, which many people (Swedes, apparently) find very appealing. We also have Lakrtisfabriken's traditional Swedish sweet licorice. 1.4 ounces (40 grams).

Ingredients: Syrup, rice flour, sugar, water, invert sugar syrup, aroma (ink ammonium choride), liquorice (6%), rice starch, humectants (sorbitol), salt, glazing agent (coconut oil, carnauba wax). Vegan, Kosher, non-GMO. Contains wheat, gluten.

Please note that this product's packaging includes the following printed California Proposition 65 warning: "This product may contain Arsenic, Cadmium, or Lead, known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. (For more information go to https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/)." Licorice, just like green tea, chili, and tamarind, is known to contain some amount of lead and other metals because of the presence of these metals in the atmosphere and/or soil in which the licorice plant is grown. Licorice has other health dangers, too: it can raise blood pressure, and lower potassium levels in the blood. The warning is printed on the box for you to make an informed decision, but generally, it would require a very large consumption of licorice for anyone to experience any significant negative impact on their health. As we understand it, all licorice products carry these dangers, but the inclusion of the printed California Prop 65 warning on the package is voluntary, and Lakritsfabriken has chosen to include the warning on their products.
