Leckerlee Assorted Mini Lebkuchen in City Scenes Tin

For several Christmases now, we've eagerly awaited each year a shipment of Leckerlee lebkuchen to serve at our own house, and now, we are truly honored to carry their amazing baked goods at our shop (and online shop, too). Leckerlee bakes authentic Nuremberg-style lebkuchen that are made in small batches. If you love lebkuchen, and perhaps have only ever had the ones baked in massive quantities in Germany, well... you've got to do yourself a favor and try a Leckerlee Lebkuchen. We love the lebkuchen from Germany (and we sell (and eat) plenty of them each year), but these are even better... like, LOTS better!

So, what are lebkuchen? Lebkuchen is a centuries-old German spiced gingerbread, of sorts, made most often in the fall and at Christmastime. Unlike most traditional American gingerbread, though, lebuchen is soft, dense, and often nutty (almond flour is the main ingredient here), with a texture somewhere between a cake and a cookie. Nuremberg-style lebkuchen (or Nürnberger Lebkuchen) are the very best; they have the highest nut content, and by definition must contain a minimum of 25% nuts and less than 10% wheat flour. They will usually contain marzipan (almond paste) and candied citron and orange peel, and they always have an edible wafer (called Back Oblaten) on the bottom, which adds an interesting bonus texture and is part of what makes them so delicious. Leckerlee lebkuchen are Nuremberg-style, with a whopping 40% nut content.

Each of these beautifully made heavyweight tins (which features a merry, wintry metropolis scene) contains 7 assorted Leckerlee mini lebkuchen (both classic and dark chocolate covered). Each mini lebkuchen is about 1.35 oz (so even with the "mini" designation, they are still quite substantial). The tin's total contents is 9.5 oz. (269 grams). Baked in small batches at Leckerlee, in Longmont, Colorado. Lebkuchen are all they bake at Leckerlee. Founder Sandy Lee and her small company have been baking them each fall and winter since 2011.

Ingredients: Almonds (blanched almond flour, almonds), dark chocolate* (unsweetened chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, natural vanilla flavor, milk), sugar, hazelnut flour, egg whites, almond paste (almonds, sugar, water, natural flavors), flour (unbleached hard wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), honey, citron and orange peel (with glucose-fructose syrup, citric acid), spices, wafer (wheat flour, potato starch), spring water, baking powder (monocalcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate, corn starch), sea salt. *Chocolate variety only.

Contains eggs, wheat, soy, milk, almonds, and hazelnuts.
