Here's a jumbo beauty (don't let the picture fool you), and if you're looking for a real showstopper, look no further: This traditional German drummer nutcracker, with his drum and drumsticks, stands 28" tall and weighs in at nearly 13 pounds of solid natural-finish wood. Handmade by the the artisans of the Christian Ulbricht Company. They've been making nutcrackers by hand in Germany's Erzgebirge Mountains, where wooden nutcrackers first originated, since 1928.

Each part of this drummer is solid wood, including the top of his tri-corner hat. The sides of his hat are felt and brocade ribbon and there's a feather in his cap. His white hair and beard are lush faux fur, and his uniform and drum are trimmed in metallic golden touches of tassel and trim. This is a working nutcracker (the lever in back operates his jaws) and a piece worthy of heirloom status. Just about 28" tall x 10" wide x 11" deep with a hand tinted face for a blush of color; the rest of the nutcracker is finished so that the natural colors of the various woods are brought to light in a satin finish. Handmade in Germany.
