True Bayberry Taper Candles, Hand Dipped, Gift Boxed Set of 2
These are true, genuine bayberry candles, made from the wax on the berries of the bayberry shrub. Bayberry candles originated in New England at Plymouth Plantation, where settlers discovered the waxy bayberry and found that bayberry candles were much more pleasing than the more common tallow candles that were used at the time.
Over the years, bayberry candles have come to be associated with Early American Yuletide celebrations: Burned to the nub on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, bayberry candles are said to bring good luck for the coming year.
This is a boxed set of two 8" bayberry tapers that were hand dipped on a circa 1850 candle carousel. Made by the small team at Helsher House; they've been making true bayberry candles since 1974 in Manlius, New York. The pair of candles, in their gift box, make for a lovely hostess gift. American made.
As with all candles, take care in burning. Burn in a draft-free spot. Do not burn unattended.
N.B.: Being genuine bayberry candles, these tapers are not artificially scented, so don't expect an intense fragrance from these candles. The aroma is quite subtle. Some folks will smell nothing at all, while others may discern a slightly herbal scent as these tapers burn.
