Apples, by Roger Yepsen

  • 1895

I bought the first edition of this book for my dad, who loved apples, in 1994. It's a gorgeous, informative book, and we are so delighted to find this revised and updated edition of Roger Epsen's Apples, which was released in 2017.

In this small and elegant book, Roger Yepsen explores the world of apples from their earliest cultivation to the present. He profiles more than 100 varieties, each of which is remarkably distinctive in taste, texture, aroma, and appearance. Yepsen's apples range from the unusual, liked the Knobbed Russet and Hubbardson Nonesuch, to orchard favorites Blushing Gold and Macoun, to supermarket mainstays like Red Delicious and Granny Smith. This updated edition includes 15 newly popular apples that were unknown or less known at the book's first edition, including Honeycrisp and Pink Lady. Each entry is accompanied by one of the author's beautiful watercolors.

Also included: recipes for everything from apple leather to apple brandy, as well as apple pie, apple sauce, apple cider, and more.

Hardcover, 288 pages. 2017.
