Day of the Dead Loteria Game

  • 1750

This special version of the traditional Loteria game is by Mexican artist Erik de Luna. We think of it as Edward Gorey meets Loteria, via Mexico City. The game is played just like Bingo, and de Luna's is a perfect Loteria to play on Halloween and Dia de Muertos. In our house, we play it for those holidays and very often on New Year's Eve, too. Each set includes 10 tablas (playing boards) and 50 cards; shuffle the cards and turn them over one at a time, calling out the name of the card. Each player places a marker (traditionally a dried bean, though coins work nicely, too) on the image of the card if it's on their tabla. Tablas measure 9" x 13.5"; cards are standard playing card size. Great fun! Printed in Mexico.
