Paper Luminarias with Papel Picado for Christmas, set of 6
The artisans we work with in San Miguel de Allende have brought together two of their longstanding traditions: papel picado (the art of handcut tissue paper banners) and farolitos, or candlelit luminarias, the paper lanterns that line walkways on special evenings... especially Christmas Eve and Christmas Night. This set features contains 6 paper luminarias made of the traditional white paper bag, each almost 10" tall, with different appliquéd Christmas patterns (wreaths, angels, candles, bells, candy canes, and poinsettias) in traditional red and green colors. Add a scoop of sand or pebbles (or kitty litter) to the open bag, then place a votive or tealight firmly in the sand. Set in place, illuminate in the darkness. So beautiful. Take caution, of course, with any open flame. For outdoor use only (when lit). Handmade in Mexico.
