End of Summer Road, by Kathleen Maugeri

  • 9500

In 2022, Convivio Bookworks friend Kathleen Maugeri penned this poem to mark summer's transition to autumn, and Convivio's John Cutrone printed it letterpress from handset Perpetua and Bembo types with the help of Lionel Zaccardi, who also carved the woodcut. Lionel and John printed the broadside on handmade Twinrocker paper that John purchased some 24 years earlier when Kathleen and Howard Clark of Twinrocker came to visit the MFA in the Book Arts Program at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, while John was a student there. The printing was completed at the Midwinter Solstice in 2022, making this a broadside that bridged many seasons: summer, autumn, winter, and quite a few years, too, as here it is, Autumnal Equinox, 2025, and we are just releasing this project to the world. Sometimes things take a while to ripen and mature.

The printing was done on a Vandercook 4 Proof Press. Lionel was known as Daniel back then. Lionel is currently working toward their MFA in the Book Arts at the University of Iowa, and we are so proud of them and their work. Thanks in large part to Lionel's contributions to the project, it's a most elegant broadside. We're so pleased with it.

Edition of 45. The broadside measures about 14" x 7 1/8", and was printed at the tail end of 2022.

This broadside is currently not available framed.
