Treasures of the Mexican Table: Classic Recipes, Local Secrets, by Pati Jinich

  • 3750

In this beautiful cookbook, the "buoyant and brainy Mexican cooking authority" (New York Times) and presenter of the three-time James Beard Award-winning PBS series Pati's Mexican Table brings together more than 150 iconic dishes that define the country's cuisine.

For over a decade, Pati Jinich has sought out the culinary treasures of her home country, from birria, to salsa macha, to coyotas, to carne asada. Many of these dishes are local specialties, heirlooms passed down through generations, unknown outside their original regions. These recipes paint a vivid picture of the richness of Mexico's cuisine.

We don't have a TV at our house, but when we visit my family's home, I just love it when Pati's Mexican Table pops up on the PBS affiliate. Her show is my favorite kind of cooking show: no competition, no rush against the clock... simply good food, good stories, and authenticity. This book is just like that. It is, like Pati Jinich, a treasure.

Hardcover, 406 pages. 2021. Photographs by Angie Mosier. Lovely endsheets, too: a map of all the States of Mexico, with the North Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, the Sea of Cortez, the Gulf of Tehuantepec,  and the Gulf of Mexico properly labeled.
