Mexican Otomi Hand Embroidered Table Runner

  • 12900

Otomi is the traditional embroidery technique of Mexico, featuring the native flora and fauna of the country. These stunning table runners are embroidered by hand by an extended family of artisans in Chiapas, Mexico, with designs that depict the plants and animals of the surrounding forests. (It's the same family that has been making the protective face masks we've been offering since the summer of 2020.)

The backing is cotton woven by hand on a waist loom. That fabric is then hand embroidered, stitch by stitch, in the bold colorful patterns typical of Otomi embroidery. Makes a gorgeous wall hanging, too. About 68" long x 16" wide.

Each is unique; we currently have three in stock: one has a subdued blue/gray background, another has a rust/burnt orange background, and the fourth has a beige background. We had white, turquoise, and red before, but these are currently sold out. It seems that requests are possible... if you're interested in a particular color, write us at mail@conviviobookworks.com and we will do what we can to get what you'd like. We'll gladly send you photos of the ones we have available, too, if you'd like to see them more closely. Just ask!
