Advent Calendar: Tomten at the Bakery

Advent Calendar: Tomten at the Bakery

  • 1900

Tomten are old characters from Norse folklore; they are small helpers who live near farms and homes... a bit of a house gnome and a bit of Santa Claus combined. In this nighttime scene, several Tomten are in a procession that includes a present-laden sleigh, and they just happen to be passing by a warmly lit bakery. The part with the tomten connects to the front of the calendar through two simple tabs, making this calendar a 3D calendar that stands up on its own.

This Advent Calendar is one of several from our Nordic Tomten Collection by artist Eva Melhuish. Brightened gently with silvery glitter. Made in Germany by the Korsch Verlag Company; they began making Advent Calendars in Munich in 1951. 8 1/2" tall x 14" wide x 3" deep.
