Mexican Market Bags: Striped Hand Loomed Cotton
Discover the exquisite craftsmanship of our versatile totes, meticulously handwoven by skilled artisans in Chiapas, Mexico, using traditional backstrap looms. Large, strong. Each holds quite a lot! Sturdy handles attach to the bag by braided straps; the braids are created from the loose strands left after the weaving is complete.
Whether you're strolling through the farmer's market, enjoying a day at the pool or beach, or seeking a chic everyday purse, these totes are the ideal companion. Adorned with vibrant stripes that extend to the straps, cleverly intertwined with the base color, each bag exudes a burst of color and style. For added strength and comfort, the tops of the straps are double-wrapped.
The backstrap loom is a traditional style of looming in Mexico. It allows the weaver to brocade designs into the fabric as it is woven. One of its main advantages to the backstrap loom is that it allows the weaver full control over the work they are doing. Small changes in the body can achieve variations in the texture of the fabric.
Each bag measures about 27" from bottom to top of handle; the bag itself is 15" x 15". We call them market bags, but they're also beautifully fashionable. Each is handmade, so each is absolutely unique. Keep in mind the one you receive is not necessarily going to be exactly what you see here in the photos... but it will be in the same general color scheme.
100% cotton. Dry clean or hand wash/hang dry; washing may cause slight shrinkage.
