German Nutcracker: Large Royal King, Natural Finish
The king is perhaps the most iconic of traditional German nutcrackers, usually adorned in red military regalia. This version of the classic royal figure stands apart in that he is not painted but made completely from natural finish woods in beautiful rich, warm tones that make him perfect not just for Christmas but for autumn and Oktoberfest and, in fact, all through the year.
Our royal king is handmade by artisans of the Christian Ulbricht Company; they've been making nutcrackers by hand in Germany's Erzgebirge Mountains, where wooden nutcrackers first originated, since 1928. This is a working nutcracker (the lever in back operates his jaws), made by hand of solid natural finish woods with a bit of painted blush on his cheeks and faux fur hair and beard. Golden tasseled shoulders and golden accents on his uniform, plus a golden scepter, and deep brown eyes. This handsome fellow stands almost 16" tall x 5" wide x 4 1/2" deep. Handmade in Germany.
