Wet Cyan Note Cards, Package of Six

  • 3200

Our friend Mary Elizabeth Nelson makes books and cyanotypes at her studio in Pennsylvania. These are wet cyan greeting cards of hers: Emmy brushes the cyanotype chemistry onto heavy watercolor papers, like Fabriano, Arches, or Somerset, arranges botanicals that she gathers on top of the chemistry, then exposes this in the sun before washing. The result is a lovely blue print. Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes invented, dating back to the 1840s. Wet cyans have a slightly different look than a traditional cyanotype: etherial, slightly out of focus, somewhat undefined.

These cards measure 4 3/8" tall x 5 7/8" wide folded, and are blank inside for your own message. Each package contains six unique cards with matching envelopes. Each set of cards and indeed each card is one of a kind; let us choose for you. The packages pictured here are representative samples. The cards you receive when you order will look very much like the ones shown here, but do keep in mind you'll receive a set of six different cards, as these images are all one-of-a-kind. These wet cyans are mounted on the cards.

Handmade in Pennsylvania.
